Key information

Position

·       Event organisation trainee with sign language (interpreting) profile

Location

·       Brussels, European Parliament, WIB 4 M 27

Start & end date

·       Starting as soon as possible, preferably no later than 02 May 2016

·       Ends 31 October 2016

·       Possibility of prolongation and/or sign language interpreting contract at the end

Remuneration                     

·       1,000-1,400 gross per month (depending on experience)

·       Health insurance & accident at work insurance included

·       Transport to and from Brussels at beginning and end covered (within EU)

 

Tasks

Assistance in organising and coordinating of large-scale conference

·       Date: 28 September 2016

·       Place: Hemicycle, European Parliament, Brussels

·       Working Title: "Multilingualism and equal rights in the EU: the role of sign languages”

·       Organisation of participants

o   Including persons with disabilities

o   Keeping track of registrations

o   Regularly inform participants

·       Organisation of speakers

o   Flights & accommodation

o   Biographies

o   Presentations & speaking notes

·       Advertising (externally & internally)

Cooperation with a large number of EP departments to ensure:

·       Interpreting

o   24 spoken languages

o   31 sign languages

·       All technical aspects

·       Visitor groups

·       Accessibility

·       Safety features

Other

·       Small ad hoc interpreting at internal meetings

·       Shadowing of experienced sign language interpreters

·       Other administrative duties as requested ?

 

 

Qualifications & Skills

Necessary

·       Strong organisational skills

·       Attention to detail

·       Diplomatic

·       Excellent time management

·       Ability to work in a small team

·       Flexible with regard to working time (no 9-5 attitude)

·       Proven experience with sign language and sign language interpreting

·       Advanced knowledge of a national sign language (preferably EU language)

·       Excellent English (written & spoken, as appropriate)

 

Strongly recommended

·       University degree in (sign) language interpreting

  • International Sign ?
  • Previous experience in organising events/conferences
  • Experience of working in an international/European environment

 

Desirable ?

·       Other European languages (spoken & signed)

·       Knowledge of EU institutions

·       Experience of working in politics or studying policy-related matters
